Vortex Optics Spitfire HD Gen II 3x Prism Scope

With a redesigned HD optical system that cuts inches and ounces off the original platform, the new Spitfire HD Gen II 3x model are a shooter's dream come true. Choose your ideal magnification and mounting height, then rely on the BDC-style reticle to subtend with most popular 5.56 cartridges for quick holdovers at known distances, keeping you locked on target.

O-ring seals prevent moisture, dust and debris from penetrating for reliable performance in all environments. Rugged construction withstands recoil and impact. Nitrogen gas purging prevents internal fogging over a wide range of temperatures. Gas purged and o-ring sealed for fogproof and waterproof performance in all conditions. Rugged construction that's still compact, with a lightweight form-factor. Corrosion and wear resistant anodization provides low-glare matte surface and helps camouflage the shooter's position.

Optimized to deliver exceptional resolution, cut chromatic aberration, and provide outstanding edge to edge sharpness and light transmission. The lowest 2 settings are night-vision compatible. Brightness Settings: 12 levels

What our Experts Think
  • Perfect balance of speed & magnification – Fixed 3x magnification hits the sweet spot for close-to-mid range shooting while still reaching out to ~650 yards
  • Crystal-clear prism optics – HD optical system delivers sharp resolution, improved contrast, and minimal distortion, outperforming many red dots in clarity
  • Astigmatism-friendly design – Etched reticle remains crisp without relying on illumination, making it ideal for shooters who struggle with red dot starbursting
  • BDC reticle for real-world shooting – AR-BDC4 reticle enables quick holdovers out to ~650 yards, optimized for common 5.56 setups
  • Compact & lightweight build – Around 9 oz and ~3 inches long, making it one of the most compact prism scopes in its class
  • Flexible mounting system – Includes multi-height mounts (low & lower 1/3 co-witness) for easy integration on AR platforms
  • Rugged field durability – Shockproof, waterproof, and fogproof construction ensures reliability in harsh conditions
  • User-friendly illumination system – Multiple brightness settings with night vision compatibility for all lighting environments
  • Trade-off: fixed magnification – No true 1x option, so it’s less flexible than red dot + magnifier setups for ultra-close CQB

Q&A

Q: What is the Viper HD 12x50 (2018) best used for?
A: Ideal for long-range observation, hunting, and wildlife viewing, thanks to powerful 12x magnification and bright 50mm lenses.

Q: What optical quality can I expect?
A: Features HD extra-low dispersion glass + XR fully multi-coated lenses, delivering sharp resolution, accurate colors, and high contrast.

Q: How does it perform in low light?
A: Excellent—50mm objectives + advanced coatings maximize light transmission for clear viewing at dawn and dusk.

Q: What prism system is used?
A: Uses roof prisms with dielectric and phase-corrected coatings, ensuring bright, crisp, and color-accurate images.

Q: What improvements came in the 2018 version?
A: The 2018 update introduced a wider field of view, improved ergonomics, and easier eye positioning for more comfortable viewing.

Q: Is it durable for outdoor conditions?
A: Yes, it is waterproof, fogproof (argon purged), and shock-resistant, with rubber armor for a secure grip.

Maintenance Tips
  • Clean lenses properly: Use a microfiber cloth and lens-safe cleaner to preserve HD optical clarity and anti-reflective coatings.
  • Keep etched reticle visible: Ensure lens surfaces stay clean—etched reticle remains usable even without illumination, but clarity matters.
  • Check mount tightness: Regularly inspect Picatinny mount screws to maintain zero and stability during recoil.
  • Maintain diopter setting: Periodically check and adjust diopter to keep the reticle sharp for your eyesight.
  • Keep turrets debris-free: Clean around adjustment turrets to ensure smooth 1 MOA click adjustments.
  • Battery care (CR2032): Replace as needed and remove during long-term storage to prevent leakage.
  • Protect from moisture & dust: Although waterproof, fogproof, and O-ring sealed, wipe down after harsh conditions.
  • Avoid impacts: Shockproof design is durable, but minimizing drops preserves alignment and performance.
  • Use lens covers: Prevent scratches and debris buildup when not in use.
