Vortex Optics Spitfire HD Gen II 5x Prism Scope

With a redesigned HD optical system that cuts inches and ounces off the original platform, the new Spitfire HD Gen II 5x model are a shooter's dream come true. Choose your ideal magnification and mounting height, then rely on the BDC-style reticle to subtend with most popular 5.56 cartridges for quick holdovers at known distances, keeping you locked on target.

O-ring seals prevent moisture, dust and debris from penetrating for reliable performance in all environments. Rugged construction withstands recoil and impact. Nitrogen gas purging prevents internal fogging over a wide range of temperatures. Gas purged and o-ring sealed delivering waterproof, fogproof performance. Rugged construction that's still compact, with a lightweight form-factor. Corrosion and wear resistant anodization provides low-glare matte surface and helps camouflage the shooter's position.

Optimized to deliver exceptional resolution, cut chromatic aberration, and provide outstanding edge to edge sharpness and light transmission. The lowest 2 settings are night-vision compatible. Brightness Settings: 12 levels

What our Experts Think
  • Premium mid-range optics that punch above their price
HD (extra-low dispersion) glass, dielectric-coated prisms, and XR fully multi-coated lenses deliver excellent clarity, strong contrast, and accurate colors—often competing with more expensive binoculars.
  • Perfect all-round configuration (8x42 sweet spot)
The 8x magnification with a 42mm objective offers stable handheld viewing, wide field of view (409 ft @ 1000 yds), and versatility for hunting, birding, and general outdoor use.
  • Strong low-light performance for real-world conditions
Large objective lenses and advanced coatings ensure bright, usable images at dawn, dusk, and in dense environments—a key advantage in the field.
  • Wide, immersive viewing experience
A ~62° apparent field of view provides a spacious, easy-to-scan image, making it easier to track moving subjects like wildlife or birds.
  • Built for durability without excess weight
Lightweight polycarbonate chassis with rubber armor, plus waterproof and fogproof (argon-filled) construction, ensures reliability in harsh conditions while staying portable (~24.5 oz).
  • Comfort-focused for extended use
Long eye relief (~18mm), smooth center focus, and adjustable eyecups provide comfortable viewing for long sessions, even for eyeglass users.
  • Close-focus versatility
With a close focus of ~6.5 ft, it handles both distant observation and nearby subjects like birds, insects, or foliage.
  • Excellent value in the upper mid-range segment
Positioned between entry-level and premium optics, it offers near high-end performance without the flagship price tag.

Maintenance Tips
  • Clean lenses properly: Use a microfiber cloth and lens-safe cleaner only. Fully multi‑coated HD optics need gentle care to preserve clarity and light transmission.
  • Use lens covers: Keep rubber lens caps on when not in use to protect the 25mm objective from dust, scratches, and debris.
  • Avoid touching glass: Fingerprints reduce brightness and sharpness—especially noticeable in fixed 5x magnification optics.
  • Check mount & screws: Ensure multi-height mount and base screws remain properly torqued to maintain zero and stability.
  • Maintain battery (CR2032): Replace as needed for consistent illuminated reticle performance; etched reticle still works without power.
  • Store in dry conditions: Nitrogen-purged and O-ring sealed for fogproof/waterproof use, but long-term moisture exposure can affect seals.
  • Wipe exterior regularly: Clean anodized body to remove dirt, oil, and moisture, preserving corrosion resistance and durability.
  • Protect from impacts: Shockproof design handles recoil, but drops or hard knocks can affect zero and alignment.
  • Use auto-shutoff wisely: The 14-hour auto shutoff helps conserve battery—turn off manually when possible to extend life.
